The Specialty Story 1944 – 1964), holte die 25-jährige Wynona Carr zu Specialty Records. Bis 1954 kamen 10 Singles als Sister Wynona Carr heraus, zuletzt "The Ball Game". Von 1955 bis 1959 nahm sie mehr Pop auf und hatte – wenn auch bescheidenen – Erfolg. Obwohl ihre Nummern zum Teil wie LaVern Baker oder Ruth Brown klingen, war Wynona Carr der große Durchbruch versagt.
Meine Favorites auf der sehr guten CD Jump Jack Jump! sind "Old Fashioned Love" (nicht identisch mit den bekannten gleichnamigen Songs von Teresa Brewer oder Sidney Bechet) und "Touch and Go". Beeindruckend ist die Bandbreite der 24 Tracks: Gospel, Pop-Balladen, Jump-Nummern und Doo-Wop. Viele der Songs sind von der Sängerin selbst getextet und komponiert.
Sehr zu empfehlen für alle, die R&B mögen.
