erster afro-amerikanischer Chef der A&R-Abteilung von Mercury; schrieb u.a. "Looking Back" (zusammen mit Brook Benton und Belford Hendricks) für Nat King Cole; "A Rockin' Good Way" (zusammen mit Brook Benton und Luchi Dejesus) für Brook Benton und Dinah Washington; "It's just a matter of time" (zusammen mit Brook Benton und Belford Hendricks); "Endlessly" (zusammen mit Brook Benton) für Brook Benton u.v.a.
Leider führte er (einer bekannten Sucht aller Afro-Amerikaner [vergleiche: "Charlie Parker with Strings"] nachgebend oder gar fördernd) Streicharrangements für Sarah Vaughn, Brook Benton und anderen ein. Immerhin produzierte er so den Klassiker "What A Difference A Day Makes" mit Dinah Washington.
Dinah Washington nahm den Song selbst auf: "That's All There Is To That" & Orchestra arrangiert und geleitet von Belford C. Hendricks; New York 7. April 1959
